Sri Lanka is a mixed economy, operated by both private and public sectors. Foreign investment is encouraged and several free zones have been set up. Its economy is based on agriculture and services and is surrounded by natural resources. Sri Lanka's import sector includes petroleum, consumables, machinery, equipment and motor vehicles. Exports include garments, tea, rubber, coconut products, gems and jewelry.

A workplace or organization is generally a place of people from diverse geographies, origins, disciplines, degrees, communities, and cultures. Everyone is expected to come together and work 100% to achieve the company's common goals. All employers and employees in an organization have few employee rights and obligations.

The whole system is very simply constructed. All employees and employers working for the company are assigned certain rights and obligations. Each member of the company has made it clear what to do after coming and attending the organization.

The roles, employee rights, and responsibilities of everyone working in the organization persist, but when confusion arises due to undefined roles and responsibilities, the consequences are cumbersome and difficult to manage. That's because all people, departments, or groups of the future have common goals, all have interests, and are interdependent. A delay in work in one department can have a significant impact on the tasks and responsibilities of the other department.

We are joining this blog today to deepen our employee rights and responsibilities. Read all sections of the article to better understand this topic.

Definition of Employee Rights

It is defined as a predefined right or privilege of an employee associated with an organization. It is intended to ensure that you are treated fairly by your employer. Such requests can be made to the employer if the employee believes there is something going on within the organization other than what they committed to at the end of their employment.

    The Right to Know

You have the right to receive information about matters affecting your health and safety.

    The right to Refuse

You have the right to refuse dangerous or unhealthy work.

    The Right to Participate

You have the right to be a member of a health and safety committee or to be a health and safety representative.

Definition Of Employee Responsibilities

Each employee associated with the company is assigned specific responsibilities to perform daily, weekly or monthly. This responsibility defines the exact path employees must follow every day. Employees are rewarded for performing well in such roles. Defining commitments also helps avoid confusion and confusion among employees about what the organization needs to do. In fact, this clarity helps the company reach its goals sooner than expected.(Azmi, W. 2022)

  1. Hi Niranchala. The articles outlines what the rights and responsibilities of an employee. Not knowing these would also lead to some consequences including a lack of protection against discrimination and harassment, unfair pay, legal action, and social and economic consequences. It is important for employees to educate themselves on their rights and responsibilities in the workplace, and to hold employers accountable for complying with labour laws. What is your view point on this ?

  12. Good topic Nilufa.
Certain rights exist for employees at work. Employees can feel secure and in control during working hours thanks to their rights and responsibilities at work. However, these rights come with a lot of obligations. An employee is expected to uphold commitments made specifically to preserve the workplace's productivity and decorum.
